History of the Zeeland church

On the balcony of this 17th-century hall church stands an impressive organ. At first glance, at least. But appearances can be deceiving. Because the Protestant congregation of 's-Heerenhoek does not have the funds for a real organ. That is why in 1902, they purchased a second-hand Vocalion. And a skillfully crafted imitation pipe front was placed in front of it. A Vocalion sounds almost the same as an organ, so it seems as if schoolmaster Pols is accompanying the psalms on a real organ. During the service, men and women sit separately. The men in the pews along the side walls, the women on chairs in the middle. The year of construction of the pulpit is carved into the back panel: 1674. The atmosphere of the interior is that of the early 20th century.
