The Arms of Amsterdam is the largest still sailing salon boat in Amsterdam and its surroundings. The boat dates back to 1948 and was designed by Herr Dr. Ryniker, a naval engineer from Basel, on behalf of the Berner Alpenbahn-Gesellschaft in Bern. The ship was manufactured by the shipyard Eugen Herbosch in Antwerp. For over 50 years, the ship served in the navigation of the Thuner- and Brienzersee with Interlaken as its home port. The ship was christened as MS Rothorn on May 22, 1950.
In 2001, the ship was purchased by Rederij de Nederlanden. The ship was no longer in service by then. In accordance with Rederij de Nederlanden, a ship designer developed a plan for the restoration. Shipyard Boxce manufactured the necessary steelwork and motor installation. The company H20P was responsible for the carpentry, all done in-house and under the management of Klaas Pater. On September 10, 2004, The Arms of Amsterdam was christened by the dijkgraaf Johan de Bondt at the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.
