For more than twenty-five years, the facade was propped up because it had become detached. In 1995, the Amsterdam Monument Fund and Stadsherstel merged to purchase and restore the building. During that restoration, various wall paintings reappeared beneath the many layers of paint. This shows the work and importance of the restorers well.
